Women talk economic empowerment, ethics

Global Women Leadership Network (GWLN) has underscored the need to include women in critical positions for the socio-economic development of the country.

The emphasis was made during the GWLN Malawi Sister Society Lakeshore Conference which took place in Salima at the weekend.

The indaba was meant to encourage women to be confident. It was held under the theme, ‘Engines for Socioeconomic Growth.

Chairperson for the society, Triza Magreta, said the group opted to enlighten women on their role in national economic development.

The conference’s discussions cantred on how women could become self-reliant.

One of the speakers, Pamela Nkwamba Matumbi, who is a member of UN Sacco focused on emotional intelligence.

“We know that there are many women that are capable and able to move the national agenda but sometimes, they are left behind and their skills and qualities are buried,” she said.

Malawi Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (Musco) Chief Executive Officer Fumbani Nyangulu said the platforms are important for sharing ideas and encouraging each other for success.

He said it is now time for men to create space for women to show and maximise their potential.
