Chisomo Women’s Group from Machinjiri Township in Blantyre yesterday cheered the sick at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (Qech) and donated assorted items worth over K300,000.
Chairperson of the group, Agnes Chibwana, said they decided to visit the hospital because they understand the challenges people face in hospitals.
Chibwana said her members provided soft loans among themselves and organised a mock bridal shower to raise the money.
“Patients lack many things. We have brought what we could afford so that for a day or two, they can forget about what they lack and concentrate on their sickness. We realise that Queen Elizabeth Hospital, being a referral hospital, has patients from far areas who may not have a relative or acquaintance to support them,” she said.
And Richard Manyozo, a guardian, thanked Chisomo Women’s Group for visiting them.
“We lack basic needs like sugar and salt which Chisomo Women’s Group has given us. Today, we all have what we need,” he said.
