The World Bank Wednesday handed over some projects which they have sponsored at Lengwe National Park in Chikwawa District as part of Shire Valley Basin Project, Wildlife and Parks Director, Brighton Kumchedwa, confirmed Wednesday.

“They have handed over a borehole for water supply, conference hall and houses for rangers. The objective of the project was to improve the management of Lengwe,” Kumchedwa said.

The facilities were part of phase one of the project which is estimated to have cost $2 million. The bank will decide on phase two of the project.

Malawi Tourism website says, as part of the project, “Money will also go towards improving the road network and infrastructure in the park.

“In turn, this will increase the available areas that visitors and park management can reach, which will make it more difficult for poaching to happen.”
