Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) President, Lonzoe Zimba, has been invited to the World Boxing Council’s (WBC) 55th Annual World Convention in Baku, Azerbaijan from October 1 to 6.
“Being yourself an active member of the World Boxing Council, and since this convention will deal with an important number of matters for the benefit of boxing in your country, as well as in the world, your attendance is very important.
“Please make your best effort to be there, participate and be part of the world to keep our WBC as strong and important as always,” reads part of a letter, dated July 25 2017, from WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman, to MPBCB.
MPBCB Vice-General Secretary, Mbachichi Nyirenda, confirmed receiving the invitation.
“A lot of issues that have happened in Malawi have somehow affected things on the international scene. I assume that the WBC President wants to clear some things that haunted Malawi recently,” he said without elaborating.
Domestic boxing has been hit by squabbles between MPBCB and Malawi Boxing Association, which established its professional boxing wing. Some pugilists switched their allegiance from the board to the association, thereby sparking divisions
