DOING IT THE MALAWIAN WAY—Chester in action during a match

Malawi national football team attacker Yamikani Chester made an impressive debut for his United States side North Carolina FC in the USL Championship in a 1-0 away win to Bethlehem Steel FC on Saturday.

Wearing jersey 11, Chester was introduced in the 77th minute replacing Steven Miller, who provided an assist for Mario Lomis’ lone goal.

The 2018 TNM Super League Player of the Year made an instant impact as he made a number of intelligent runs. He also managed one shot on target.

Chester, who is on loan from MFK Vyskov of the Cech Republic, caught the attention of fans with his silky skills despite being on the pitch for only 13 minutes.

One fan, Isidro Garcia, tweeted: “Chester Yamikani has some moves! He impressed me, not only with his moves but poise at the end of the match.”

Another tweeting as Proud Jerk wrote: “Big time moves, holding the ball up on his debut! Looking forward to seeing what you have got this season.”

Carolina have made a perfect start under Coach, Dave Sarachan, having won their two opening games of the season. They lead with six points.

In a press statement released through his representative, James Woods Nkhutabasa, Chester said he was excited with his performance.

“He is feeling extremely happy after getting his debut appearance, delighted for the team on their victory, grateful to the coach, teammates and fans for all they have done, continue to do,” reads part of the statement.

Chester has been included in the Flames squad to face Morocco in a dead rubber Africa Cup of Nations qualifier slated for Friday at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
