Yamikani Chester to join Flames today

The United States-based, Yamikani Chester, is expected to become the first foreign based Malawi national football team player to join Flames camp today.

Flames Team Manager, James Sangala, said the North Carolina midfielder was in the country after the USL Championship season concluded.

“So we had talks with him to check if he was ready to join the squad. He has confirmed that he will start training with us,” he said.

The former Be Forward Wanderers playmaker played 25 matches and scored five goals.

Chester is at Carolina on-loan from Czech Republic side, MFK Vyškov.

Meanwhile, Sangala said the Flames would also welcome some players that missed first week of training due to injuries.

However, Sangala said the return of the players would depend on their fitness level and if they were not injured.

“If they manage to avoid injuries and are still fit they will be with us,” Sangala said in reference to Wanderers defender, Dennis Chembezi, Nyasa Big Bullets duo Mike Mkwate and Charles Petro.

Flames are preparing for 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games. Malawi will host South Sudan on November 13 before travelling away to face Uganda in Kampala.
