You are the one
We crave to become the best, to become market leaders such that we waste a lot of time studying what others are doing better so that we outrun their ideologies. That is the worst mistake in life. There is no competition in life, we have no competitors in life and we are our only competitor.
To concentrate on competition is but to concede that you are not the best; thus, others are miles away from you and you can only watch and walk in their shadows. Where is your uniqueness in that? The world will only give you the best if you give it the best.
All great people we admire believed that they were the best, they worked hard, they failed many times, they were ridiculed but nothing could stop them. They succeeded because they believed that in life they were themselves their worst competitors. Beat the competition of self-doubt. Beat the competition of self-belittlement. Beat the competition of lack of self-belief. Beat the thoughts that tell you that you are second class to others. Come to believe that in whatever you do, you are the market leader, the reference others would want to read in life. Actually, you are greater than you can begin to imagine as says Les Brown. You are greater than any circumstances you can encounter. If anything, you were born with greatness.
In the pursuit of your dreams, you have to believe that you are the one. Work towards achieving your dream with the belief that there is no one else who can accomplish it but you. If Zuckerberg had not worked on his dream with such persistence, there would have been no Facebook today. Sir Thomas Edison strongly believed that he was the one who could come up with an electric bulb, no wonder he experimented 9,999 times and succeed at the 10,000th time. Sir Edmund was right upon reaching the tip of Mount Everest.
He said: “It was not the mountain we conquered but ourselves.”
Conquer the mountain of self-doubt, laziness and following other people’s footsteps. It is time you stepped your mark just as Neil Armstrong took a picture of his footprint on the moon. Let your dreams leave prints in memories of people. Accept no second-class thinking. You are the one, you are the best there is and you are in possession of the keys that unlock new chapters in life. It is the mind that matters.
Peter van Ketswell explains: “Although I need to be physically fit and strong to do what I do, the key to success is always what happens inside my head. Your body is an incredible thing. It can get used to almost anything and it can go on forever. It is your mind that stops you, that gives up long before your body does.”
There is an interesting story narrated by a Cherokee legend. The story is about an old chief who passes words of wisdom to his grandson.
“My boy,” he says, “there is a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, fear, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego. The other is good. It is joy, love, peace, hope, humility, kindness, empathy and truth.”
The boy thought about this for a while and asked: “Grandfather, which wolf wins?”
The old man quietly replied: “The one you feed most.”
It is your inner self that determines what you become. Positive mentality yield positive results. Learn to appreciate the good things in others. It is only through appreciation that we open our minds to more new things. The mind is like an umbrella; it functions when opened.
Never let your dreams die. You are the only one who can give life to such dreams. They may seem impossible to achieve but they are not; impossibility is the figment of your imagination, impossibility is the magnitude of your fear of failure, impossibility is when you lack the belief to know that no one else can out compete you but yourself. You are the one; there is no one but you.
