‘Youths should make right political choices’

Youths in the country have been encouraged to make proper political choices to avoid being used by politicians.

The remarks were made on Sunday during a rally organised by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) executive committee in Ndirande Malabada Constituency in Blantyre.

Blantyre District Chairperson, George Thambo said the youth have the potential to develop the country but they are not given the chance to showcase their abilities.

He, however, extended an invitation to all youths in the country to join MCP if they want to change things in the country.

“If you look around in most of these parties today, youths are being used as tools. They are used to incite violence just for the benefit of the party. That is not what we want, youths should be agents of change. And we are inviting them to join MCP because that is the better place for them.

“The party no longer belongs to old people, if you look around in the party, youths are being recognised,” Thambo said.

During the rally, about 130 supporters from Democratic Progressive Party and United Democratic Front defected to MCP.

Speakers at the rally took turns to encourage people to register in the ongoing National Identification cards registration exercise as the national document will be crucial in the 2019 elections.

According to the district chairperson, the rally was also aimed at strengthening the party after a long time without engaging with its supporters.
