Yusuf, Bose Kamphulusa win Cedar Place Golf

Unheralded Yusuf Yusuf and renowned Bose Kamphulusa were on cloud nine after winning the Cedar Place Golf Tournament at Country Club Limbe (CCL) in Blantyre on Sunday.

In the men’s section, Yusuf, playing off handicap 14, was counted in to finish on first position with 66 points whereas in-form Levison Kapito was counted out to finish as the runner-up with 66 points. His handicap was 10.

Hamza Kali, playing off handicap 15, finished on third position with 69 points.

The men’s champion, Yusuf said he was delighted to win his first trophy in his golf career.

“I struggled on the front nine but I was composed and focused on the back nine when I made two over-pars to win the trophy. I will build on this success,” he said.

In the ladies’ section, Kamphulusa, who has been in terrific form in recent tournaments, emerged number one whereas fast improving Joline Bapu finished second.

Kamphulusa attributed her feat to calmness.

“I, basically, came here to enjoy the day with fellow golfers. I had a difficult front nine but my back nine was good because the greens were playing well,” she said.

Cedar Place, located opposite Namiwawa Filling Station in Blantyre, sponsored the tournament.

“It was a good shot for us. Even though we were given a short notice [to host the event], we felt we needed to support the club and the sport; hence, our sponsorship. We offer luxury apartments, lodging and accommodation,” Cedar Place Marketing Supervisor, Atupele Singano, said.

CCL Golf Section Director, Chapusa Phiri, hailed the 53 golfers that took part in the competition.
