Zambian club courts Mark Fodya

A window of opportunity has opened for Silver Strikers defender Mark Fodya with Zambia’s MTN Super League giants Zanaco expressing interest in his services.

Fodya is one of the best left backs in domestic football and has a running contract with Silver.

However, a well-placed source at Silver confirmed that the Central Bankers are ready to sell the Flames defender.

“It is almost a done deal. The two clubs have already agreed the deal in principle. It is a good deal for the player, Silver and Zanaco,” the source said.

When contacted to confirm the development on Tuesday, Silver Chief Executive Officer Thokozani Chimbali declined to shed light on the issue.

“I will only comment when there is something tangible,” Chimbali said.

Reports indicate that Zanaco approached Silver on recommendation from coach Daniel Kabwe, who won two league titles with the Zambian club.

Fodya, who can play as a left back or left winger, joined Silver from Blantyre-based Wizards FC in 2016.

Early this year, Silver made sure they retained Fodya’s services by extending his contract to 2024.

The younger brother to Nyasa Big Bullets defender Yamikani Fodya missed the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ethiopia and Guinea due to injury.

The injury is also to blame for Fodya’s omission from the 2022 Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup squad underway in Durban, South Africa.

On a good day, Fodya can score and create chances for others.

If Fodya signs for Zanaco, he would become the third Malawian to play in Zambia’s MTN Super League after Luka Milanzie and Dalitso Sailesi.

Milanzie played for Zesco while on loan from Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe whereas Sailesi was at Lusaka Dynamos.
