Zimbabwe depots 60 Malawians

Zimbabwe has deported 60 Malawians who were said to be living in that country illegally.

Confirming the development, Public Relations Officer for Mwanza border, Pasqually Zulu, said the people arrived at the border on Tuesday on a Zibwabwean bus.

Zulu said the use o f unchartered routes and lack of proper documentation, when exiting the country, by some Malawian nationals remains a challenge to Malawi’s immigration department.

“These people were arrested on different dates within the past four months for various immigration offences which include illegal entry and overstay, while others were refused entry into South Africa since they had insufficient funds,” explained Zulu.

Zulu said according to one of the victims, well wishers in Zimbabwe facilitated their travel back home.

He said the people, all males and in their mid 20s, have been released upon being advised on the need to be creative back home and to follow the right procedures when going outside Malawi.
