Zimbabwe envoy’s 14-year tour of duty ends on high

Zimbabwean High Commissioner to Malawi, Thandiwe Dumbutshena, is expected to leave Malawi this month, after about 14 years of representing Harare in the country.

Dumbutshena has also served as Dean of Diplomatic Corps for years.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation spokesperson, Rejoice Shumba, said Dumbushena presented her letters of credence in 2004 and that, during her time in the country, she has strengthened the relationship between the two countries.

“We, as a country, will miss her and we just hope the person who will be appointed to take up her position will continue from where she has left,” Shumba said.

She said, as is the case with envoys leaving the country, the government of Malawi through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation would organise an end of tour event for Dumbutshena.

Records indicate that Dumbutshena was a headmistress at Girls High School Harare before she came to Malawi. She is well known for her girl and women rights activism
