Zitherepano sings all night
Fans partied all night – singing, dancing, eating and drinking on Christmas Eve through to Christmas Day at Zitherepano in Mangochi during the Sound and Light concert grand finale.
It rained cats and dogs in Mangochi on the night for a longer time but this could not keep away the fans who wanted nothing but to party and enjoy music vibes this being the festive season.
Others remained and waited for the rains to stop while some left and came back at a later time.
Despite the rains, the concert spearheaded by Entertainers Promotions alongside Carlsberg Malawi lived up to its billing with Mulangeni Sounds and Ben Mankhamba opening the live performances.
Carlsberg Malawi which has been organising street parties especially on New Year’s Eve, said this is an annual event but this time they decided to take a different approach.
“We rotate the street party between the three major cities but this year we decided to do something different, having the street party every year would be boring to some extent.
“So we thought we should bring something different this time around,” said Carlsberg Malawi Senior Brands Manager (Alcoholic) Twikale Chirwa.
He said this time they have partnered with Entertainers Promotions to hold a concert at Zitherepano as well as take part in the Jamaican reggae group Morgan Heritage show which was held at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe yesterday and another show on December 31 at Lilongwe Golf Club.
“So we are giving our consumers a total package. As Carlsberg we feel duty bound to satisfy our consumers and entertain them,” said Chirwa.
Entertainers Promotions’ Tonderai Banda said they were satisfied with the show at Zitherepano adding that this was a continuation of their Sound and Light project which he said will come bigger and better next year.
After performances by Mulangeni Sounds and Mankhamba, came Anthony Makondetsa better known as Mr Cool who dished out several songs from his albums including ‘Mbumba Ya Abrahamu,’ and ‘Mu Yuda.’
He left the stage for Black Missionaries which also performed for long offering songs from their Kuimba albums.
It was already late when Black Missionaries were moving out of the stage but fans had still more to sample as next up came Sam Simakweli followed by reggae musician Lambanie Dube.
But it was the coming in of Nepman famed for the hit ‘Nalelo,’ which upped the tempo.
Nepman has proved that he has potential as long as he does not lose direction.
He dished several songs which included some which were originally done by other artists before paving way for Lucius Banda.
Being Christmas Day – Lucius popularly known as Soldier kept the people in Christmas mood when he opened his set with the million-selling 1978 Christmas number one song ‘Mary’s Boy Child/Oh My Lord’ which was done by Boney M.
The audience went into Christmas mood and they could not help it but sing along before Lucius performed his own renditions.
With his Zembani Band dancers, Lucius showed energy on stage when he sang as well as danced.
At around past five Lucius was still performing and he stepped out of the stage after being disappointed by the actions of some two men, who were holding each other and at times even kissing.
It was not clear whether they were ‘gays’ but Lucius said later that their actions smelled it all that they were ‘gays’ and that he could not go on with his performance.
And this marked the end of the Sound and Light concert.
