Zomba City Festival returns for 2nd edition

After a successful outing last year which pulled an impressive audience, Zomba City Festival is back, with its second edition set to take place for four days.

A press statement from Zomba Arts Platform says the festival is set to treat people to culture, heritage and nature at different locations in the city, hence going by its slogan One City, Many Venues.

The festival’s publicist Dereck Nyirenda said visitors to the festival will explore the green city at the foot of a 2,000 mountain through moving from one venue to the other.

Zomba City Festival runs from April 29 to May 2nd.

“The opening is on April 29 at Gymkhana Club in one of the historical buildings and then, on Saturday and Sunday, there will be visual arts exhibitions in the botanic gardens. Early morning hikes take people to Ku Chawe where the hikers can do some yoga stretches and enjoy the stunning views,” Nyirenda said.

He said Pakachere will treat people to live music.

“We have a mixture of DJs and musicians; there is coffee tasting, poetry and book reading at the Heritage Centre and visitors can experience fun online and off-line gaming at Mango Lodge. Zomba City Festival is open to all ages and supervised children under the age of 12 enter free of charge,” Nyirenda said.

Some of the confirmed acts for this year’s edition include Sangie, Praise Umali, Dali, Waliko Makhala and Jill Patience.

The festival is also packaged with ballet, acoustic music with violin and variety of games.

Nyirenda said that, this year, the festival rolls out a VIP programme for those who want to celebrate in style.

“So, through this programme, people get driven from venue in the VIP shuttle, enjoy private VIP lounges, receive a goodie bag and exciting extras such as swimming at Ku Chawe while enjoying the beautiful views,” Nyirenda said.

Apart from spearheading the festival, Zomba Arts Platform supports the creative sector in the country through training, internships, public relations services, event solutions and artists management.
