Rapper Phyzix popularly known as Gamba in the music sphere has resurfaced with his 17th album titled Mphungu which is boxed with 17 songs.
The artist, who has been out of the limelight in recent times, said yesterday that the 17 songs connects symbolically “because this is his 17th album and that he wanted the project to fully embrace that moment in my journey.”
“But creatively, it also just felt complete at 17 songs. Every track serves a purpose in telling the story and emotional arc of the album. I did not want a filler and I did not want to force it shorter just for trends,” he said.
He said Mphungu was born during one of the quietest but most transformative phases of his life and career.
“I intentionally stepped away from noise, social media and unnecessary visibility to reconnect with myself creatively, spiritually and mentally. During that process, I realised I was no longer creating from the same place I used to years ago,” the ‘Cholapitsa’ star said.

The Blantyre-based musician further said Mphungu is about elevation, perspective and becoming.
After 17 albums, Phyzix said the biggest inspiration now is no longer proving he can rap but rather it is about saying something meaningful, creating timeless work and cementing legacy.
The album drops on June 12 2026 and as he looks forward to the project hitting the market, Phyzix is today stepping out with a second single off the project titled ‘ One and Only’ featuring Hope Cizzle
His other albums include Overdue, The Lone Ranger, From the Dust, The Diaries and Mountain Goat.
