The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has announced two additions to the 2026 Malawi Sport Awards, signalling a renewed commitment to honouring excellence across the country’s sporting landscape.
The ceremony is scheduled for February 27, 2026 in Salima District.

Addressing journalists in Blantyre Thursday, MNCS Director of Marketing Limbani Matola said the awards would now include the Technical Official of the Year and Hall of Fame categories.
“The new recognitions will elevate the status of referees, judges, umpires and long-serving legends who have contributed immensely to Malawi’s sporting heritage,” he said.

Matola said the nomination and voting period would run from December 1 to January 10, 2026.
He said the window would be open to associations, fans and stakeholders to ensure that athletes, officials, administrators and organisations get adequate time to submit deserving nominations.
“We want the process to be inclusive, transparent and reflective of Malawi’s sporting excellence,” Matola said.
Matola said the road to determining winners would involve several detailed stages including shortlisting, where a committee made up of sports journalists and selected experts would scrutinise the nominations to verify eligibility.

Their assessment would focus on achievements, contributions, impact and alignment with category criteria.
He said the committee’s judgement would account for 70 percent of the final score whereas 30 percent will be determined through public voting.
National Director for Special Olympics Malawi, Enid Mauluka, urged sports bodies to take the process seriously.
“We must actively participate in this process. We are committed to ensuring full involvement so that deserving athletes and officials are recognised,” she said.
A total of 16 categories will be contested for, including Junior Male and Female Sportsperson of the Year, National Team of the Year, among others.
