The legends Blantyre derby involving Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets grossed K8.3 million, the organisers have disclosed.
Wanderers Legends won the match after beating their counterparts 3-2 on post-match penalties at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Monday.
The game’s organising committee chairperson Kevin Moyo said the gross [K8.3 million gate collections revenue] had passed their K4 million target.
“I would like to thank Bullets and Wanderers fans for turning up in large numbers. Their support has shown that they welcomed this initiative wholeheartedly” Moyo said.
However, Moyo said a large amount of money will be kept in the legends’ bank account and that players that took part in the match will receive an appearance fee.

“We would like former players to be assisted. The money realised from the match will not be shared. We want to be doing this annually to assist struggling former players from these two clubs,” he said.
The legends also plan to cheer former Civil Service United coach Alex Masanjala, who was hospitalised at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
“We agreed that we should cheer Masanjala as he is not feeling well,” Moyo said.
At Kamuzu Stadium on Monday, Bullets legends took the lead in the 85th minute through striker Heston Munthali before Victor Nyirenda equalised for Nomads legends in added time.
