Football Association of Malawi (Fam) is Wednesday expected to start inspecting stadia that have been earmarked to host elite football before the 2024 season.
According to Fam Club Licencing and Compliance Manager Casper Jangale, the inspection exercise will run for five days across all the three regions, and will run simultaneously with club inspections.
Initially, Fam had planned to conduct the exercise last month but shifted it to this month to enable stadium owners and clubs to prepare.
“We informed clubs and stadium owners about the development and we are optimistic that the exercise will go as planned. Once we conclude the exercise, the First Instance Body will give us the direction. We are now ready to visit the clubs and inspect the stadia,” Jangale said.
Last season, Fam banned Civo and Mzuzu stadia in the course of the season, only to be reopened following maintenance works.

In the meantime, some teams have welcomed the programme.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga felt that Fam’s inspection was important.
“On our part, we have always been ready and we want to lead by example,” Chigoga said.
On the other hand, Silver Strikers Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba believes the Central Bankers have what it takes to pass the club licencing litmus test.

Chimimba was hopeful that Silver would retain Silver Stadium for home matches in the 2024 season, having been using Bingu National Stadium (BNS) as their home ground following delays to conclude Silver Stadium renovations.
“We are ready. Actually, Fam officials were supposed to inspect the venue last week. When they were cancelling it, our grounds-men had done all the work,” Chimimba said.
Currently, Confederation of African Football certified BNS to host international matches after Kamuzu Stadium was banned from doing so.
