Malawi Writers Union (Mawu) President, Chikumbutso Ndaferankhande has urged writers in the country to pen books that can appeal to all people.
The writers’ body said this on Friday in Lilongwe during the launch of a book titled Unleashing Greatness that has been authored by seasoned writer Hope Jabes.
Ndaferankhande observed that with the coming of technology, many people have lost interest in reading as they opt to watch movies or play games, hence writers need to be creative to attract readership.
“With the coming of technology, many Africans no longer read. People prefer to watch a movie than read a novel, so, this goes back to writers to think outside the box and craft stories worthy reading. If we write eye-catching stories, our books will be read,” he said.
The Mawu leader then commended Jabes for publishing a book that, he said is appealing to everyone.
Bishop Medram Chirwa, who was the guest of honour, also heaped praise on Jabes for the book describing it as perfect tool for self-discovery.
“In Malawi, we are lacking leadership books, books that can help develop a child into a leader. You do not expect someone to act as a leader if he is not built like one. So, this book is building those skills,” Chirwa said.
Jabes expressed excitement after launching the book.
“The book is looking at how best we can unleash our potential, talents and all those good things that are embedded in us by God. This book talks about discovering who we are and what God has put into us. I actually have explained in the book how one can cultivate, attain and walk in greatness,” Jabes said.
During the launch, Miss Malawi Jescar Mponda, economist Patrick Tsoka and lawyer Christopher Chiphwanya were hosted to a panel discussion where they gave insights into the book.
