Malawi National Football Team midfielder Chimwemwe Idana’s future with Tanzanian second-tier side Mbeya City FC hangs by a thread as the player wants to quit the club for failing to fulfil some of the contractual obligations.
This comes barely three weeks after the expiry of his loan deal with Lilongwe-based outfit Silver Strikers.
According to a well-placed source, Idana is unhappy with Mbeya’s conduct.
“It is a tricky matter. He has not been paid for some time. The club has not been responding to emails and phone calls,” the source said.
However, Fifa rules and regulations indicate that a professional player can terminate a contract with a club if he is not paid after two months.
Idana joined Mbeya on a one-and-a-half-year contract after leaving FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at the end of last season.
However, he was immediately loaned out to Silver until July 31 after Mbeya’s foreign quota was full.
However, his manager Davie Matemba was reluctant to comment on the matter.
“I will not be able to comment on rumours. I will speak on the matter on Thursday,” Matemba said.
Mbeya Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Kimbe was yet to respond to our questionnaire on WhatsApp on Monday.
He was also not answering his mobile phone.
Before joining Mbeya, Idana had successful trials at DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United but was not signed as the club’s foreign quota was full.
Football Association of Malawi Compliance Manager Casper Jangale refused to comment on the matter.
The talented midfielder starred for Silver while on loan as he scored five goals in the first round of the TNM Super League.
Silver were interested in turning his loan into a permanent move.
His last match for Silver was a goal-less draw with Moyale Barracks at Mzuzu Stadium.
