Veteran filmmaker Shemu Joyah has expressed delight with the “positive headway” that the country’s movie industry is making despite the several challenges on the ground.
The maker of award-winning films such as Seasons of A Life and Last Fishing Boat, said this in Blantyre on Monday during the premiere of a trailer for the movie titled Is the President Dead? which has been directed by Isaac Misoya.
The film is expected to be released in December this year.
“We are not yet there; there is still a long way to go, but we are not where we used to be. The industry is vibrant and what makes me happy is that every year, I am seeing improved productions with so much quality,” Joyah said.

The filmmaker, who recently participated at the Durban FilmMart in South Africa, commended Gosm films for the movie which is set to add up to a number of films that have been produced in recent times.
“This is good for Malawi because through the film, the country will be exposed,” he said.
The film depicts a plot to kill a president masterminded by some officials within the government system.
“We have worked hard on this movie and we are sure people will love it. The movie is there to offer the much needed entertainment and at the same time educate the masses,” Misoya said.
