Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) Chairperson Judge Annabel Mtalimanja Wednesday officially declared Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president Professor Peter Mutharika the winner of the September 16, 2025 Presidential Election, marking a historic political comeback.
Mutharika, who garnered 3,035,249 votes or 56.8 percent of the national vote, convincingly defeated incumbent President Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), who managed just 1,765,170 or 33 percent of the national vote.
