Linga Creatives has challenged Art in Me project equips youths in script writing young people in the country to take interest in script writing, describing it as a significant part of theatre. The outfit has moved in swiftly to train young people in scripting writing in an Art in Me project in Nkhotakota District.
It is using funds from Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) through the Copyright Fund.
“We want to change the narrative on the ground in the country. We want to train more players in script writing and, that way, we will have more script writers who can create more productions,” project director Shafiq Kalumo said.
He described Nkhotakota as one of the districts that is rich in history, adding that, as such, its stories need to be told.

“Through the Art in Me project, we want to create these stories and, at the same time, unearth talent,” Kalumo said. He then revealed plans to create documentaries aimed at documenting the history of missionaries such as Dr David Livingstone.
“Through the project, we want to produce 10 original short stories as well as a musical about the MV Vipya tragedy,” Kalumo said. Meanwhile, Kalumo has said Linga Creatives is working on a festival to feature performances and film screenings.
The three-day training, which attracted 30 participants, was facilitated by Film Association of Malawi Vice President Gilbert Moyo.
Moyo, who spoke on script development and storytelling, described the training as a success, saying there was a need for more of such gatherings.
