Blantyre-based youthful artist Clement Kam’mwamba, who is also into photography, has been invited to participate at the sixth Hola Utopia Street Art Festival in Hannover, Germany.
The festival is scheduled for August 25 to September 5, 2025. A letter from the organisers, signed by founder and lead organiser Jascha Muller, who is also the founder of Hip-hop Kulture, says Hola Utopia Festival is organised in close cooperation with the Cultural Department of the City of Hannover.
Since its inception, the festival has produced large-scale public murals in city neighbourhoods. The letter says this year, the festival focuses on Hannover City’s centre under the theme ‘Humanity’.
Artists from around the world will gather to paint walls that reflect this theme and contribute to building more connected urban communities. Kam’mwamba has been invited as part of the on going twin city relationship between Blantyre and Hannover.
“Your unique visual storytelling and community-oriented practice are perfectly aligned with the spirit and mission of our festival. We look forward to your presence in Hannover and to the artistic exchange your participation will bring to this year’s programme,” the letter reads.

Kam’mwamba confirmed the development, saying he was looking forward to showcasing the best of Malawi through his creative lens. “I just came back from South Africa to process my visa. I am excited to represent Malawi, specifically my home city of Blantyre, at Hola Utopia Festival, one of the biggest mural festivals in Hannover, Germany,” he said.
Kam’mwamba said this is not only a chance for him to grow as an artist but also to proudly showcase the spirit and creativity of “my community at an international stage”. Actor and playwright Jack Musumba from Arts Sustainability Lab, who has been handling all the management responsibilities for the engagement, said Kam’mwamba leaves Malawi for Germany on August 23, 2025.
“When I visited Hannover, Germany, earlier year with Robert Magasa, I had a series of meetings with creatives. As a result, we are expecting even more collaborative projects with our friends in Hannover. Clement will be painting largescale murals, showcasing Malawian themes and culture,” Musumba said.
