About Dzuka Publishing Company Limited

Established in 1975, Dzuka Publishing Company Limited is one of the first indigenous publishing houses in Malawi. It was the only company that published educational materials that were being used in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institutions.

At primary-school level, Dzuka Publishing Company Limited is popularly associated with one of its publications’ characters Timve and Tsala and the Mtunda Series in Chichewa. Many people have fond memories about these publications.

In the 1980s, Dzuka introduced a Dzuka series which was a platform for publishing works written by Malawian writers. Writers such as Steve Chimombo, Jolly Max Ntaba and John W. Gwengwe, among others, were published and popularised. The authors’ publications became the hub of Chichewa language and literature in Chichewa learning both in primary and secondary schools.

Dzuka has a set of textbooks under the series brand called “Practice”, which are curriculum oriented, which the Ministry of Education evaluated and approved as recommended textbooks to be used in secondary schools in Malawi. Dzuka Publishing Company engages local writers and artists when developing its publications.  The textbooks were written by subject specialists in English, Social Studies, Computer Studies, Biology, Geography, Life skills among other subjects. The methodology used in these textbooks is learner centered approach and are easy for a learner to use without guidance.

Not only is Dzuka Publishing Company Limited a brand associated with teaching and learning materials in the country but it also has a pool of resource persons with high grade educational background and a great network among stakeholders in the education industry.
