Organisers of Entertainers of the Year Awards have called on people to vote for their favourite nominees ahead of the grand finale on December 14 2024 at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
Chairperson of the awards, Chisomo Mwamadi said on Monday that having released the list of nominees in different categories, they want people across the country to participate by voting for their favourite nominees.
“People did a good job in voting for the nominees and now that we have the list of nominees, now is the time to vote for their favourites, who will carry the day. These awards have always valued people out there and this is why we want everyone to be a part of it,” Mwamadi said.
He said they do not want people to complain during the grand finale but rather embrace the winners. “In most cases when we do not vote, we give a chance to others, who might not be your favourite nominees to carry the day. So, we call upon people out there to vote,” Mwamadi said.
He said they were geared for the grand finale and that they were looking forward to give people the best event. Recently, Mwamadi indicated that they had made slight changes as regards nominees ahead of the grand finale.
He said the changes have been made following proper scrutiny by the committee in their quest to deliver credible and transparent awards. Mwamadi said they had removed the name of Kendall Kamwendo on the list of Film Director and replaced him with Ignaticious Kaphinde.
“After proper consultations, we felt it was important to make changes. Kendall Kamwendo agreed with this because his name was wrongly put up in a category of Film Director. “The other category is that of Netballer of the Year where Mwawi Kumwenda was nominated as Netballer of the Year and yet she was not active and so, she has been replaced with Shabel Bengo,” he said.
Mwamadi said all the concerned parties have given the go-ahead including Kumwenda hence the changes. “We do not compromise in what we do hence making sure that all the processes are followed.
There were also complaints on actor Phwedo being nominated as content creator but this is in order because he is into content creation apart from acting,” Mwamadi said.
This year’s awards feature eight main categories, including music, drama, media, sport, poetry, social media and film, with a total of 50 individual awards to be given out from the subcategories.
The awards, whose voting will close on December 14, are aimed at celebrating hard work and talent of individuals in music, television, poetry, film and other entertainment fields.
Some of the categories include Secular Artist of the Year Award (Male) which will see a battle of Fadah Moti, Eli Njuchi and Driemo whereas the Secular Artist of the Year (female) has Jetu, Emmie Deebo and Temwah.
