Jazz maestro Erik Paliani has described the first outing of The Ultimate Guitar Workshop in Lilongwe as a success and that he was looking forward to more sessions.
“Being the first time to do it, I never thought we would get more people but I was wrong; we got the numbers,” Paliani said yesterday.
He said he was serious with the mission and that he would also like to see more female acts attending the sessions.
“We managed to cover so many guitar and musical concepts. We also had an advanced class where advanced musical elements and fundamentals got discussed,” Paliani said.
He said he was glad that great players like Paul Kachala, pianist Robert Phiri and Trust Msowoya were in attendance.

“I used them to explore and explain a lot of jazz theories on the day,” the guitarist said.
Paliani said after Lilongwe, it was now the turn of Blantyre on Sunday.
“I am urging all working guitarists and instrument players to attend. The information discussed is important to all musicians. We need to do these sessions so as to be at par with the world,” he said.
Paliani, who performed with big name artists such as jazz maestro Hugh Masekela, said having been on the ground working with artists at Kayesa Creative Centre in Mchinji, it was now time to get Kayesa to town.
