TNM Super League defending champions FCB Nyasa Big Bullets came from two goals down to beat Civil Service United 3-2 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre Wednesday.
The win took Bullets back to the top of the 16-member log table with 37 points, one ahead of second-placed bitter rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers who have played 19 matches, one more than Bullets.
However, the People’s Team survived a scare as they were two goals down before the half-hour mark.
Former Bullets striker Luke Chima gave Civil the lead in the 19th minute after beating goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba.
Binwell Katinji doubled the lead in the 21st minute to pile more pressure on the People’s Team.
Indeed, the day started badly for the hosts as Lanjesi Nkhoma saw Civil goalkeeper Tione Tembo saving his penalty in the 40th minute.
The penalty was awarded after a foul on Man of the Match Patrick Mwaungulu..
However, Nkhoma made amends in the 45th minute when he scored to narrow Civil’s lead.
At the start of the second half, Bullets made a triple substitution, introducing Peter Banda, Ephraim Kondowe and Frank Willard for Kesten Simbi, Anthony Mfune and Kenneth Pasuwa, respectively.
Kondowe underlined his growing reputation as a budding super substitute when he equalised in the 49th minute while Patrick Mwaungulu scored the winner in the 86th minute.
Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa said his charges were slow because of fatigue.
“The story for us is that the boys are looking tired. We tried in the second half to bring in fresh legs and things worked out,” Pasuwa said.
Civil Assistant Coach Wilson Chidati said his charges gave the match away.
“We relaxed after scoring the two goals but we will correct our mistakes in the next match,” Chidati said.
In other matches, Mafco beat Red Lions 2-1 with Duncan Mwale and David Daudi scoring for the former while Brown Gondwe netted the consolation goal for the latter.
Bangwe All Stars also collected full points from a 1-0 win over Ekwendeni Hammers while Karonga United beat Moyale Barracks 2-0.
