Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has commenced disciplinary proceedings against Karonga United and Red Lions for incidents that happened during their respective round of 32 matches in the FDH Bank Cup last month.
Both Karonga and Red Lions have been charged with two offences of bullying match officials, in line with article 24.12 of the 2023 FDH Bank Cup and bringing the game of football into dispute, contrary to article 67 of Fam disciplinary code.
According to a charge sheet, Karonga fans pelted objects at the second assistant referee during their round of 32 match against Kamuzu Barracks at Karonga Stadium on June 21.
“Karonga fans pelted objects at the second assistant referee who sustained a cut on his chin after being hit by one of the objects, forcing the match to stop for 20 minutes as the referee received medical attention.
“Karonga failed to control their supporters from engaging in improper conduct and their actions brought the game of football, Fam and name of the sponsor into disrepute,” the charge sheet reads.

“We will not be able to comment on the issue as the legal adviser is still looking into it,” Chalulu said.
