Flames striker Frank Gabadinho Mhango on Monday scored his fourth goal of the season as Moroka Swallows came from behind to force a 2-2 draw with defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns at Dobsonville Stadium in the DStv Premiership.
Mhango netted the disputed equaliser in the 84th minute to deny Sundowns maximum points.
It was a vital equaliser for the Dube Birds, who are not off the hook of relegation this season.
Teboho Mokoena put Sundowns ahead in the 37th minute before Chilean Marcelo Allende doubled the lead after 51 minutes.
But Augustine Mahlonoko inspired Swallows’ comeback with a tap-in in the 57th minute.
Mhango has scored five goals for Swallows in all competitions this season, having also scored in the 1-0 victory over Cape Town Spurs two weeks ago to end a three-month goal drought.
He also scored in the 2-1 loss to SuperSport in December last year.
Mhango was excited with the fourth goal of the campaign.
“It is important to get a point against the defending champions. We worked hard for the point,” he said.
However, this is Mhango’s second controversial goal this season after he also netted the winner against Sekhukhune United in August last year.
Sundowns Coach Rulani Mokwena was quoted by South African media that Mhango was offside before scoring the goal.
“It was a very shocking decision, but we had enough chances to have been well ahead by then,” he is quoted as saying.
The draw means Sundowns need 11 points from their remaining nine games to retain the league title for the seventh straight year.
For Swallows, they are on position 14 in the league with 26 points from 24 matches.
Mhango has scored for all the clubs he has played at in the DStv Premiership since 2014.
Then, in his debut season, he scored nine goals for defunct Bloemfontein Celtic as he finished as the club’s top goal scorer.
Then, he moved to Golden Arrows on loan where he scored five goals before joining Bidvest Wits, where he inspired the club to the league title in 2016-17.
