The Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) has called for collective efforts if the electoral body is to administer peaceful, fair and credible elections next year.
Mec Chairperson Judge Chifundo Kachale emphasised that if all stakeholders fulfill their duties in accordance with the law, instances of parties complaining about unfair electoral processes can be minimised.
Kachale was speaking in Mzuzu Wednesday when he officially opened a postmortem meeting for the Karonga Local Government By-elections.
He said councils, security institutions, non-governmental organisations and the media have a critical role to play in ensuring that electoral processes are followed accordingly.
“Let us work together so that we can have credible elections,” Kachale said.
Alliance for Democracy Karonga district chairperson Mackenzie Malema and UTM Karonga District director of women Patricia Msiska echoed the sentiments.
Meanwhile, Kachale has urged the National Registration Bureau to expedite the issuance of national identity cards, stating that only those with IDs will register and vote in the September 16 2025 tripartite elections.
