Kamuzu Stadium is set to host the 2023 TNM Super League derby between Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Bullets on Saturday in defiance of the Football Association of Malawi’s (Fam) advice.
Last month, Fam announced that it had resolved that Kamuzu Stadium will no longer host high profile risk matches including Blantyre derbies due to its poor state.
Instead, Fam said the Blantyre derbies will be played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
However, the two giants are set to clash on Saturday after Sulom fixed the game.
Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda said they will not be held accountable to anything as communication was made long ago that the venue was not fit to host such a high profile match.

“If Sulom and the teams proceed with the game at Kamuzu Stadium, they will be doing that against the advice Fam issued. We condemned the stadium and wrote to Sulom over the matter. So if they go ahead playing at Kamuzu [stadium] let them do. But that will be against Club Licencing rules and the advice we issued. Whatever happens we will not be held liable,” Gunda said.
However, Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda said there has never been a change of the venue or a revised fixture regarding the two teams.
“The fixture was never revised as the concerns of cordoning off are highly adhered to as per club licensing and inspections reports.
“No formal communication on venue change was provided neither to clubs nor the organisers of competition,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga said they did not receive any communication from Fam regarding the matter.
“We have not gotten any communication on the matter so we are proceeding with the venue as announced by Sulom,” Chigoga said.
Wanderers CEO Roosevelt Mpinganiira was not available for comment.
