Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) has announced that there are adequate fuel stocks in the country.
This comes amidst reports that fuel that is available in strategic reserves can take the country less than 20 days.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Mera, which is headed by Henry Kachaje, says consumers should not panic as there is enough fuel in the country.
The statement indicates that the country has fuel that will last close to a month.
“In addition, importation is ongoing to ensure uninterrupted availability of fuel on the market. Please report any illegal fuel trading practices to the nearest police station,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Committee on Natural Resources and Climate Change Chairperson Welani Chilenga has described Mera’s assurance as timely.
“Well, this is good news to hear and we hope that this status of fuel availability in the country will continue,” Chilenga said.
On Tuesday, there was an inter-ministerial committee on fuel meeting that was chaired by Vice President Saulos Chilima to discuss matters surrounding fuel in the country.
