The Malawi Girls National Football Team will be looking for a good start when they face Benin in a Group A match at the 2025 Caf African Schools Championship at University of Ghana Stadium (Pitch Two) this afternoon.
The match kicks off at 12.30pm.
The draw for the tournament took place on Monday ahead of the kickoff this morning.
Malawi will face Morocco in the second match Thursday at Pitch One before wrapping up the group stages fixture with the hosts Ghana at the same venue later.
Malawi Girls Team Coach Bridget Chirwa said the girls were ready to kick-start the tournament on a high.
“We are ready to face any team in the competition. We prepared our girls for any challenge,” Chirwa said.
The team arrived in Ghana on Sunday morning. Chirwa said the girls were adapting well to weather conditions in West Africa.
“At first, the girls looked tired due to the hot weather here [Ghana] but I have seen great improvement in the second training session,” Chirwa said.
Before departure on Saturday, Chirwa said her target was to guide the team to the final of the tournament.
In another Group A match this afternoon, hosts Ghana will open their campaign against Morocco.
In Group B, Democratic Republic of Congo will face The Gambia whereas defending champions South Africa will meet Uganda. Both matches will start at 10.00am.
Two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
Malawi girls’ team booked a place at this year’s finals after finishing as runners-up to South Africa during the Cosafa Qualifier regional play-offs in Namibia last year.
