Rapper Tay Grin widely known as Nyau King comes face to face with Lawi in a rare showdown that seeks to promote culture at The President Hotel at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe Saturday.
Tay Grin has organised the event through his Black Rhyno Entertainment dubbed Royal Affair: A King’s Celebration.
Apart from Tay Grin and Lawi who are the headliners, the event will also feature Nathan Tunes and VJ Ice on the decks.
Tay Grin, who recently received praise for his ‘Tcha’ music video said he settled for Lawi “because he is one of the artists he believes does a good job in fusing culture in his music”.
“So, since the night is a celebration of culture, I thought it wise to do it with Lawi. It is a night where we are going to have ambassadors, Chief Executive Officers among others, but we want to make sure that our culture is presented to the world,” he said.

The artist then called upon people to patronise the event and also come in their ‘fine’ African attires to show the beauty of Malawi and Africa.
“We are going to have local music and food. When you get your ticket, you are going to have food,” the ‘2 By 2’ star, said.
Lawi said he was looking forward to the event where they will showcase the country’s culture to both old and young generations.
“We have not done well as a country to document our culture and this is in all the areas, you talk of music, drama, visual art, traditional dances, literature, poetry and storytelling. This is a good time to regroup and gather information which as a country we have lost,” the ‘Lilongwe’ maker, said.

He said over the years the country has abandoned “its own” and focused its attention on things from outside.
“This platform seeks to show that Malawi has its own and that the country started somewhere and it is going somewhere and so, we need to safeguard our identity that tells our story as Malawians,” Lawi said.
