International Tobacco Growers Association (ITGA) has lamented the invasion of unsuitable products into the tobacco industry.
ITGA President Jose Javier Alanda said this in Lilongwe Thursday at a regional meeting for tobacco growers.
Alanda said Africa has aided tobacco market expansion globally through its dedication.

“But the market has been invaded by products that have little or no tobacco, which affects tobacco growers,” Alanda said.

On his part, Agriculture Minister Sam Kawale assured the delegates of the government’s commitment to supporting production because tobacco is the country’s principal export crop.
Meanwhile, Tobacco Association of Malawi (Tama) Farmers Trust President Abel Masache has said the meeting would help stakeholders share ideas to protect farmers while realising profits through improved production.
The meeting, which Tama and Agricultural Research and Extension Trust organised, attracted experts from five Southern Africa countries.
