National Bank of Malawi plc (NBM) has said it believes Malawi National Women’s Football Team will carry its Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) momentum into the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers against Zimbabwe.
The Scorchers host Zimbabwe in the first leg at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe this afternoon before travelling to Zimbabwe for the return leg on October 13.
The two-legged tie will be the Scorchers’ first assignment since their impressive run at the Wafcon, where they finished as runners-up.
It also comes after NBM significantly increased its sponsorship of the team from K150 million last year to K1.3 billion.

NBM Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager Akossa Hiwa said they expect the Scorchers to continue raising the country’s flag high following their success at the continental tournament.
“We are proud that the Scorchers are flying the Malawi flag high, and our expectations, as well as those of all Malawians, are very high for this game,” Hiwa said.
She said the bank will be at Bingu National Stadium to support the team.
“We have already started engaging supporters as part of efforts to build excitement around the match. As sponsors of the Scorchers, we have already started engaging our customers, supporters and fans of the Scorchers in various ways,” Hiwa said.

She said the bank had introduced a trivia initiative on its social media platforms, particularly Facebook, with winners receiving tickets to watch today’s match.
“We are engaging a lot of people on our platforms.
This is helping to build the hype as we head into the match,” Hiwa said.
The winner over the two legs will advance to the next round where they will face either Kenya or Seychelles in February.
