Newly recruited Super League of Malawi (Sulom) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Faith Vilakati-Mzungu has promised to champion commercialisation drive.
Mzungu-Vilakati was confirmed as the first Sulom CEO in domestic football on Thursday evening. However, she said she will not waste time as Sulom has the potential to generate resources through football.
“Sulom has so much capacity to go commercial with the visionary executive committee that is in place, the well qualified and experienced members of the secretariat team that have been appointed and the support of all the stakeholders,’’ Mzungu- Vilakati said.
Mzungu-Vilakati holds a Bachelor’s of Commerce Degree in Marketing and Project Management, Diploma in Journalism and in Sports Reporting.
She has joined Sulom after she decided against extending her contract as Brands and Marketing Manager for Silver Strikers.
However, until yesterday she was acting CEO for the club.
The recruitment of Mzungu-Vilakati as Sulom CEO comes after the league governing body amended its constitution paving way for the recruitment of permanent staff.
As Sulom CEO, she will be the head of the secretariat and run daily operations of the league governing body.
Sulom also recruited Simeon Maseko as Finance and Administration Manager whereas Collins Nsunza is the Media and Marketing Officer.
FCB Nyasa Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga hailed Sulom saying it was a step in the right direction.
“The coming in of the CEO will help clubs in commercialisation drive. We are excited and we hope this will bring change in Malawi football,’’ Chigoga said.
The recruitment of a new CEO and Finance and Administration Manager means the positions of general secretary and treasurer will be abolished at the end of their term of the current administration.
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama also commended Sulom for walking the talk.
“This will ease pressure from the executive committee. Operations of Sulom will now be managed by the secretariat at the same time source funds for its operations. This is a positive move,’’ Chinyama said.
Haiya was elected as Sulom president during the elections held in Mangochi in February this year. Sulom has already secured offices in central, southern and northern regions for smooth service delivery.
