The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDA) has said the government’s decision to increase the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) package will create business opportunities for those who are in the local procurement and supplies business.
PPDA Director General Edington Chilapondwa said this during a training session for contractors, suppliers and other businesspeople, whom the authority trained in the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System.
This is a digital platform which allows people to register with PPDA and follow updates without physically visiting PPDA offices.
“We, as PPDA, decided to equip local suppliers looking at the business opportunities the government is geared to create, including the K5 billion Constituency Development Fund, which will be disbursed to councils. We know that more business opportunities will be created,” Chilapondwa said.
One of the participants, Oswell Nkhata of Pillers Group of Companies, said they were looking forward to landing government contracts.

“International suppliers are preferred to us, locals, maybe because some [government] departments and agencies think that we do not have the capacity to supply quality goods or implement standard projects,” Nkhata said.
PPDA has been conducting roadshows in Mzuzu City and selected areas of Mzimba North, teaching people how the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System operates.
