The Malawi National Netball Team, the Queens, moved a step closer to the 2027 Netball World Cup after defeating hosts Kenya 55-47 in their second match of the Africa regional qualifiers at Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi, Sunday.
The victory put them in a strong position ahead of their next encounter against Nigeria today.
Malawi, who opened their campaign with a commanding 71-38 victory over Zambia, once again showed composure and determination against a competitive Kenyan side.
The Queens started strongly and led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter before Kenya responded in the second period.

Malawi maintained their advantage at half-time, going into the break with a 28-24 lead.
The hosts continued to challenge after the interval, but the Queens kept their composure and extended their advantage to 41-33 by the end of the third quarter.
Malawi then held firm in the final quarter to complete a hard-fought 55-47 victory and claim another important result in their qualification campaign.
The win leaves the Queens with two victories from their opening two matches and keeps them firmly focused on securing one of the two available African slots for the 2027 Netball World Cup.

After their emphatic victory over Zambia, the Queens had to show a different side of their game against Kenya, particularly as the hosts fought hard in front of their home crowd.
Head coach Deborah Fuller said the team had benefitted from their preparations and was ready for the challenge, saying the tune-up matches had helped them “tighten the loose ends” ahead of the competition.
