Fifteen teams have applied for a licence to participate in the 2024 TNM Super League ahead of Monday’s deadline.
However, two regional champions face a race against time as Central Region Football Association (CRFA) and Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) have not concluded their respective seasons.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) wrote Super League teams and the regional football associations on January 18 2024, asking them to apply for the licence by Monday.
Thirteen Super League teams survived relegation last season.
Newly promoted Baka City and CRFA side Kawinga FC have already applied for the licence ahead of the season.

Although Kawinga applied, their fate is awaiting the conclusion of investigations into alleged match fixing.
Fam Compliance Manager Casper Jangale said teams that will not meet Monday’s deadline will not take part in the league.
“We have sent several reminders to the teams. We are happy that all the Super League teams complied. Some of the teams that are fighting for promotion did not show interest in applying and, as such, we do not have time to waste,” Jangale said.
According to Jangale, each team was required to pay K250,000 as application fee.

The association is expected to hold a club licencing workshop for the top flight teams this week at a venue and place yet to be announced.
All the three regional leagues were expected to be concluded on December 31 2023.
However, only Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) identified its representative before the deadline.
The battle for promotion in the Southern Region is between Ntopwa FC and Fomo FC.
SRFA Chairperson Raphael Humba said the champions will be decided next Sunday.
“We are happy that, by Sunday, we will know our representative. It was a long journey,” Humba said.
