Rising Choreos Theatre Company yesterday finished their tour of Europe with their last parade show in Spain.
Led by award-winning actor and filmmaker Joyce Mhango Chavula, the group has been on the move, representing Malawi and Africa.
Their Festivals du Sud tour started in France on July 30 2024, when they held close to 17 shows showcasing some of the traditional dances performed in Malawi including Gule Wamkulu before moving to Spain, where they continued their exploits.
In Spain, the group also held workshops.
“It has been a fruitful European tour and we have finished strongly. We held close to 28 shows in more than 10 villages in France and Spain. We have left a mark on every stage we performed and we shared our Malawian smile in every village,” she said.
Mhango Chavula said they were looking at having more of such opportunities and that they were hopeful that, with their performances, they would open more doors for Malawian artists to perform in France and Spain.
“This is our first experience on a tour of such magnitude and we hope this is just the beginning of many more outings to come. If we are to grow the creative industry, then we need more of these opportunities,” the ‘Lilongwe’ movie maker, said.
The group is expected back home on Thursday.
