Science was the focal point with art complementing it during a science expo organised by Zomba Private International School on Saturday.
It was an expo that showed the beauty of science as well as art, with students from both primary and secondary showing their creativity in innovations such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) robots.
Dubbed Science Expo, the expo, which run under the theme ‘Learning without Limits’, gave students, some of which came from other schools, a chance to display their knowledge in the application of principles of physics, chemistry, biology and robotics.
Deputy Mayor Munira Bakali, who was the guest of honour, could not hide her excitement with what the students displayed during the expo.
“The world is changing; it is dynamic and science and technology as well as art are taking over and if students are empowered to innovate then we will be able to achieve the 2063 agenda,” Bakali said.

She called on schools in the city to come together and create platforms where students can be supported to showcase displays in science, technology and art.
Conleith Selenje, who was the director of ceremonies at the event, said the country needs to invest a lot in science and art if it is to develop.
“Science, for instance, is propelling everything today and if you talk of advanced countries, then we are talking of science, technology and art,” Selenje said.
He said the exhibition is part of a long journey they have embarked on to equip “our next generation, who are students today, with modern scientific ideas”.

The school’s principal Rachakonda Balaraju said that learning is the putting into practice of ideas perceived in the mind, hence it cannot be limited.
“Malawi needs innovations and some of which are going to be fulfilled by putting into practice the ideas which students of this school have displayed. The focus is on science but art also came in,” Balaraju said.
Balaraju said the science expo also offered students from the school a chance to interact with students from other schools in the city.
At the event, students were also decorated with cash prizes, medals and certificates.
