Malawi National Women’s Football Team and MDF Lionesses striker Sabina Thom has joined Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) giants TP Mazembe on a two-year deal with the option to extend for another year.
Thom completed her medical with Mazembe Ladies last week.
Speaking from her Lubumbashi base Thursday, Thom described the move as a dream come true.
“I am excited to sign this deal. It feels great to be part of this big club. This is a dream come true for me. I have always wanted to play for a big club like Mazembe. God has now made it possible,’’ she said.
Thom is expected to fly back home today before returning on July 22 after finalising logistics.

Mazembe were crowned DRC Women’s Soccer National champions after beating DC Bweremana 9-0 on Sunday.
This will be Thom’s third club abroad having played for Simba Super Queens of Tanzania and Swedish side Kvarnsvederns.
Lionesses General Secretary Arnold Jere said they are confident that the player will excel in the DRC.
“This is an opportunity for Thom to advance her football career. She is a good player and we wish her all the best at her new club,’’ Jere said.

Thom is one of the top players for Malawi and has greatly contributed to the team’s success.
She is best remembered for scoring a brace for Malawi in a historic 3-2 victory over South Africa during a Cosafa Cup semi-final in 2021.
Other Malawian women’s football stars plying their trade outside the country are Tabitha Chawinga and her sister Temwa, Madyina Ngulube and Patricia Nyirenda.
