Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has charged Silver Strikers and supporter Mulo Makina over misconduct incidents that marred the end of the Castel Challenge Cup final at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on December 30.
The charges relate to acts of hooliganism, including the damaging of chairs, at the venue after Silver lost 4-2 to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on post-match penalties on December 30 last year.
“The Football Association of Malawi, through its Competitions Committee, would like to notify you of the commencement of disciplinary proceedings against one of your supporters, Mr. Mulo Makina, in respect of his conduct during the 2023 Castel Challenge Cup Final match,” reads the letter signed by Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda.
In a letter dated February 27 2024, Silver have been asked, through their chief executive officer (CEO), to provide Fam secretariat with his [Mulo’s] position in relation to the charge within 48 hours of notification.
Fam has also commenced disciplinary proceedings against Silver, in respect of the incidents that occurred during the same match.
“Accordingly, Silver Strikers FC is hereby invited to provide the secretariat of Fam with its position in relation to the charge sheet attached within 48 hours of receipt of this notification,” another letter reads.
Silver CEO Patrick Chimimba could not be reached for his comment.
