Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) has indicated that a K2.1 billion water bottling plant it intends to establish is expected to be operational by March next year.
This came out during the board’s meeting with media practitioners in Zomba on Friday.
Its spokesperson Rita Makwangwala said equipment for the water bottling plant was already in the country.
Once installed, the facility would produce approximately 10,000 bottles of 500ml per hour.
“This is part of our reform initiatives. We sought ways to generate additional revenue beyond water connections and perform our core duty of providing potable water. The bottling plant is a realisation of this effort, leveraging our capacity to supply high-quality water,” Makwangwala said.
Makwangwala further revealed that the plant would have a plastic bottle manufacturing section.
