Malawi Women’s National Football Team captain Tabitha Chawinga continues to make headlines for good reasons after she scored a brace as Paris Saint-Germain reached the final of Coupe de France on Sunday.
They advanced to the final after beating Paris FC 4-3 on post-match penalties after a 3-3 stalemate in regulation time.
PSG Feminine will face Fleury in the final on May 4.
Fleury defeated Olympic Lyon 5-4 on post-match penalties after a goal-less stalemate in regulation time.
PSG Feminine captain Grace Goroyo opened the scoring in the 13th minute but Gaetane Thiney pulled Paris level in the 28th minute.
However, unstoppable Tabitha restored PSG’s lead after she controlled the ball in the box before she unleashed a low shot into the net in the 57th minute.
Sakina Karchaoui turned the ball into her own net. Ribadeira put Paris in front before Tabitha netted the equaliser five minutes to full time.
This could be an opportunity for the Malawian to win her first gold medal in France.
Tabitha could not hide her excitement after reaching the final.
“We are in the final. We will keep on fighting,” she said.
Tabitha has been in form since she joined the French giants on loan from Chinese champions Wuhan Jiangda.
She is also the leading goal scorer in the French Feminine League with 13 goals.
Flames’ former striker Esau Kanyenda praised Tabitha for her exploits.
“Tabitha Chawinga has helped her team, PSG, to reach the final of the Coupe de France. She scored two goals. Salute my captain,” Kanyenda wrote on his Facebook page.
The talented PSG striker has also been short-listed for the player of the month for February.
Last year, while in Italy, she won the golden boot award, scoring 23 goals in 21 matches for Italian side Inter Milan Women.
