Malawi National Women’s Football Team striker Temwa Chawinga continued her impressive form for Wuhan Jiangda, helping the team qualify for the semi-finals of the Chinese FA Women’s Cup with four goals on Tuesday.
Temwa netted the goals in Wuhan’s 6-1 win over Beijing.
The victory saw Wuhan topping Group C with nine points from three matches.
The Malawian has now taken her goal tally to 11 in the competition after three matches.
This has cemented her chase for a second golden boot award in the current season after winning the award and also helping Wuhan retain the Chinese National Women’s Cup with six goals.
The former DD Sunshine (now Silver Strikers Ladies FC) said the best is yet to come.
’’I always work hard to ensure that Wuhan win trophies. Personal glory is not my priority. But I will be happy if I win the golden boot award,’’ she said.
Temwa is also the leading goal scorer in the Chinese Women’s Super League with 10 goals.
She has already equalled last season’s league goal tally when she won the golden boot award, beating her elder sister Tabitha by one goal.
This was before Tabitha moved to Inter Milan Women on a season-long loan deal.
Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili hailed the sisters for their outstanding performances.
’’I am really impressed with their performance. Tabitha had a good season at Inter Women while Temwa is also outstanding at Wuhan. This is very good for our national team,’’ Fazili said.
Temwa has helped Wuhan to win the Chinese league for three consecutive years.
She is looking to win her second golden boot award this season having won the award in the Chinese National Women’s Cup in April where she scored six goals to help Wuhan retain the cup.
