The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education Training Authority (Teveta) on Wednesday donated K40 million to the National Statistical Office (NSO) to go towards conducting a labour force survey in the country.
This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions in Lilongwe.
Teveta Executive Director Elwin Chiwembu Sichiola said they regard the survey as pertinent as it will highlight gaps and help the authority streamline its operations to address such gaps in line with the Malawi 2063 agenda.
“We are happy that we have come together with the NSO in signing the MoU, and we hope this will benefit all of us. I urge the NSO team to comply with the set deadlines as this will help us have readily available data which will be used for the development of the country,” Chiwembu Sichiola said.

NSO Commissioner of Statistics Lizzie Chikoti lauded Teveta, saying the financial support will help ensure quality data at the end of the survey.
“For some time, we have had challenges with employment data in the country because the last survey was conducted in 2013. After the survey, we are going to know how many people are employed or not and in which sectors,” Chikoti said.
The survey will be conducted in 15 months from October 2023 to December 2024.
