An unemployed Lilongwe-based man Edward Chikankheni has become the biggest Premier Bet online sports betting winner for the new football season, turning into an instant millionaire with K38 million.
Chikankheni, a resident of Lumbadzi Trading Centre, hit the jackpot after staking K80.
The 52-year-old, who comes from Nanseta Village, Traditional Authority Kachere, in Dedza District, staked bets in 32 games from England’s Premier League, La Liga of Spain, Bundlesliga from Germany and the French League One, among others.
The new millionaire in town says he will invest the money in a car spare parts business. He said some of the money will go into a media business which his last-born son runs.
“I played two tickets. The first one lost with two games. It had the possibility of fetching K350 million after my K80 stake,” he said.

Chikankheni said he lost his job some years ago.
“Whenever I have some little money, I find some time to go and bet. It is pleasing that God has finally answered my prayer and here I am with these millions. This win has inspired me to continue betting so that I win more money. My appeal to those who have never won before is that they should not lose hope because, one day, God will also answer their prayers,” he said.
Premier Bet Commercial Manager for Lilongwe, Toufic Sboity, said they are happy to have produced the first big winner in the new football season, which kicked off this month.
“We are very happy to have produced yet another millionaire. This will encourage other players to come forward and play our game. However, we are also reminding our esteemed customers to bet responsibly. We have always advised that they should bet after sorting out all their needs. This is what we call responsible betting,” Sboity said.
